Medium thickness stainless steel plate is 4.5-25.0 mm stainless steel plates. The typical forms of defects in medium thickness plates are as follows:

1. Longitudinal micro-cracks: longitudinal micro-cracks formed on the surface of the plate with a length less than 200 mm, width less than 3 mm, and depth less than 0.3 mm.

2. Peak-shaped cracks, it is appeared at a distance of 5-60 mm from the lower surface edge of the plate, perpendicular to the rolling direction, presenting a “mountain peak” shape.

3. Edge cracks, it is occurried at a distance of 20-80 mm from the edge of the plate. Its shape is a series of parallel longitudinal cracks of different sizes. The rule is that the thicker and wider the plate, the more severe the defect.

4. Inclusions, scars, the distribution of inclusions and scars is regular, and becomes obvious after inspection with edge flame-peeling cracks or flame cleaning operations on cast plate blanks.

In the use of medium thickness stainless steel plates, attention should be paid to those defects. Fine longitudinal cracks, peak-shaped cracks, edge-type cracks, inclusions, scars, and other surface defects on the plate will affect the surface quality, requiring modification and reducing product quality.
