Hot rolling and cold rolling are steel forming processes, which have a great impact on the structure and properties of steel. Most of rolling of steel is hot rolling, and cold rolling is used to produce small-sized steel and sheet.

Advantage

Hot rolling can destroy the casting structure of the ingot, refine the grain of the steel and eliminate the defects of the structure, so that the structure of the 304 stainless steel plate is dense and the mechanical properties are improved.

Shortcoming

1. The non-metallic inclusions inside the steel are pressed into thin sheets and delamination occurs after hot rolling. Delamination greatly deteriorates the tensile properties of the steel through the thickness, and there is the potential for interlaminar tearing as the weld shrinks.

2. Residual stress caused by uneven cooling. The larger the section size, the bigger the residual stress. Although the residual stress is self-balanced, it still has influence on the performance of the steel member under the action of external force.
