How to Repair 310S Stainless Steel Pipe Cracks

310S is a kind of heat-resistant stainless steel with good corrosion resistance and is used in alkaline pipelines for ion-exchange membrane electrolysis. Due to the high technological requirements of this material, it is easy to cause serious pipeline cracks, which will bring serious hidden dangers. Then, welding repair of cracks has become an important repair method.

1. Make preparations before welding and drill φ6mm crack arrest holes 10mm from the two ends of the crack. Then use an angle grinder to grind a groove with a groove angle α=60°, a gap b=3.2mm, and a blunt edge p=1.5mm. The length of the groove is the distance between the crack holes, and the transition surface between the weld and the base metal is ground through the crack stop hole, and the oil, rust and other sundries on both sides of the groove are cleaned.

2. Use welding machine, DC reverse connection, φ3.2mm for bottoming, filling and covering, welding current is 110A.

3. Adopt arc-extinguishing welding for bottoming, continuous arc welding to fill and cover, and single-pass bottoming, double-pass filling and 3 times surfaces covering. Each joint must be staggered by about 15mm to ensure that there is no defect. The welding direction is from left to right, and the welding sequence is from bottom to top layer by layer.

4. The appearance of the weld seam should be flat and the remaining height of the weld seam h≤1mm, width ≤4mm after welding. After coloring inspection is qualified and the pressure is normal then able to use. When welding, concentrate on observing the situation of each molten pool. If there is a defect, stop welding in time, perform grinding, and re-welding. After the welding of 310S stainless steel pipe is completed, color inspection is carried out, and it can be used after it qualified in the press test.
